Prodigal Sons & Covid19

4/6/2020

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me.
You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!

Psalm 40:17
COVID-19 has impacted virtually every aspect of our lives. At the beginning of March, Daniel, our CEO was sick and, though untested for the virus, stayed in isolation for two weeks. He has recovered and is doing well, and is adjusting to life under "Safer at Home" orders. Brian, our Partnership Development Director, welcomed a son into the world at the end of February, and then all of this hit. He's enjoying time with the new baby, and the time with his 3 other children at home. Both Daniel and Brian are continuing to work together virtually during this most wild time.

It seems like the difficulty and uncertainty grow with each day in these times, but one thing we hold to is that God does not change. He is sovereign. He is good loving always, and that doesn't change during times like this. We can have confidence that He knows our every need (Luke 12:30). And so, we pray. A lot.

We continue to pray for those around the globe affected by this pandemic, and particularly those in our own communities.
As Prodigal Sons Inc., we are trying to settle into a new transition for the next few weeks/months. We ask that you continue praying for us and for the ministry. A few specific requests to pray for are:

  • For Gang Members - Those throughout our cities and those Danny has personally developed connections with. Unfortunately, outside of phone texts/calls, there isn't much to do in terms of spending time with them right now, and we're limited in terms of opportunities to serve them. Danny has checked in with some of them & if needs come up during this time, we hope we can bless them somehow.

  • For our Church Partners - Keep them in prayer as opportunities to connect with them are also limited. Also pray for their communities. Some of our church partners are in neighborhoods where shootings/killings have taken place in recent weeks and seem to be increasing. Unfortunately, we really cannot encourage much intentionality in these situations due to the stay-at-home mandate. We've contacted them and just encouraged prayer for their communities as those areas endure these hardships. Pray for God to use this time to strengthen these churches, to grow their reach, and to prepare them for further engagement in the future.

  • For the Unemployed/Those in Financial Hardship - Due to the virus, there are those who have lost work or remain uncertain about their job situation. Daniel has interacted with a number of homeboys who have lost work in this time. Please pray for those who are financially impacted.

  • For the Incarcerated - Pray for those who are locked up, for their health, and the fact that they are not allowed any visits during this time. Pray that many incarcerated will cry out for help to God who gives grace to the humble and come to Christ in this time. Pray for the governing rulers and those in charge of the prison systems - that God gives them wisdom to make just decisions that accord with his view of people, and that prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in these close and closed quarters.

We will continue to share relevant stories and prayer requests during this time via Twitter and our regular email updates (sign up). Thank you for your prayers & support. We are praying for you all and for our world as the Covid-19 situation continues to change everyday. We trust that, in spite of what our eyes can see, God is at work right now across the world and in our communities. He is building his church and he is bringing an increasing number of people to himself. He is with his people. Hold fast to Christ & let us know how we can praying for you as well (send prayer requests to: connect@prodigalsonsinc.org).
